I love music, especially that of Englishmen. This is a random post after not posting for 3 weeks but lyrics, like poetry, strives to capture a moment, an emotion. It’s a space where “Time forever frozen still.” Ed Sheeran’s Photgraph weaves together strands of love and loss. It compels you to experience your own feelings through the emotions of the artist. I used to hate calling musicians “artists” because c’mon Da Vinci was an artist. But to call someone an “artiste” means
Touching Songs
an artist, especially an actor, singer, dancer, or other public performer.
artiste
/ɑːˈtiːst; French artist/
noun
1.
an entertainer, such as a singer or dancer
2.
a person who is highly skilled in some occupation: a hair artiste
But we’re not french, so “artist” is logical but some how unfitting.
Paul McCartney’s Blackbird paints a beautiful picture of a terrible confinement. It embodies hope in darkness. His simple yet descriptive lyrics at their best. I love this song so much that I can barely describe it. I’ve written about 75% of a story that ends with this beautiful scene.
Queen’s Another One Bites The Dust is fun and sing-alongable. It’s almost like those violent video games they say we shouldn’t play but we play them anyway.
So what are your favorite songs? Has any song inspired you?
